Joan A. Swain, of Railroad Ave., Bliss, died Wednesday July 2, 2014 in the Wyoming County Nursing Facility, Warsaw at the age of 80. She was born August 19, 1933 in Bliss a daughter of the late John and Emma (nee Day) Washburn. She was a member of the Bliss Baptist Church and the former Gleaners of the church. She was a 50+ year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bliss and enjoyed embroidery, crosswords, baking and taking walks. Her husband Charles “Bucky” Swain, Jr. whom she married January 13, 1951 died March 29, 1988. She is survived by her children – Gail Potter of Machias, Christine (Myrle) Rawleigh of Canaseraga, Berniece (Michael) Raab of Machias, Vicky Swain of Bliss, Darlene Maracle of Canada, John Swain of Bliss, Todd (Melisa) Swain of Dansville; siblings – her twin Joyce (Doug) Warner of Bliss, Hazel Hatfield of Warsaw, Evelyn Reynolds of Alexander, Lynn Washburn of Castile, Glenn (LynnAnne) Washburn of Attica; a sister-in-law – Virginia Washburn of Bliss; 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son-in-law – Wayne Potter, Sr.; her siblings – Clarence Washburn, Jay (Carrie) Washburn, Everett Washburn, Crystal (Paul) Shaffner, Laura Roberts; brother-in-law – Sterling “Tiny” Reynolds and sister-in-law – Joyce Washburn.
