Mavis M. Wilson of Stone Quarry Rd., Delevan died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Bertrand-Chaffee Hospital in Springville at the age of 94. She was born August 22, 1920 in Delevan, NY a daughter to the late CJ Cagwin and Ethel Grace (Whitney) Cagwin. She was a member of the Yorkshire Free Methodist Church in Yorkshire. She enjoyed her grandchildren, mowing her lawn and baking wedding cakes. She also enjoyed sewing her own clothes, flowers and photography. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her children: Paul (Nancy) Wilson of Rochester, Ward (Susan) Wilson of Delevan, Marvin (Dawn) Wilson of South Carolina, and Lois (Bob) Buckland of Delevan; her siblings: Velma Cagwin and Lyle Cagwin both of Delevan; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two more on the way and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Claude C. Wilson whom she married June 3, 1950 in Delevan. He passed away October 3, 1998. Eva Winifred “Winnie” Guild formerly of Liberty St,. Arcade died March 3, 2015 at St. Anne’s Community in Rochester, NY at the age of 101. She was born April 29, 1913 in Falls Creek, PA a daughter to the late Harry Nelson Milligan and Maude (Drown) Milligan. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her son: Jack (Beverly) Guild of Webster, NY; three grandchildren: Jeffrey (Karen) Guild, Susan (Fred) Guild and Amy (Patrick) Albo; two great-grandchildren: Brayden and Mikayla Albro; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Francis “Jack” Guild whom she married February 2, 1930 in Frewsburg. He passed away in 2000. She is also preceded in death her siblings.

Irene C. Fitzgerald of Brookside, Dr., North Java died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo at the age of 88. She was born August 8, 1926 in Hornell, NY a daughter to the late Paul Pieper and Catherine (Horlacher) Pieper. She was a member of the Java Village Congregational Church and was the part-time organist there for 2 1/2 years. She was a LPN at the East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw. Her husband, Gerald J. Fitzgerald whom she married February 2, 1974 in Tonawanda, NY passed away February 22, 2006. She is survived by her children: Paula (William) Flynn of Shreveport, LA, Larry (Karen) Henn of Lockport, Scott (Janet) Henn of Georgia, and Michael (Shauna Parkinson) Henn of North Java; also survived by four step-children, her twin sister – Arlene (Bob Schwan) Smith of Penn Yan, NY, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son – Patrick Henn, and a step-daughter.

Richard J. Szweda of Parkview Dr., Arcade died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at his residence at the age of 68. He was born December 24, 1946 in Buffalo, NY a son to the late Leon Szweda and Frances (Malowski) Szweda. He was an avid bowler and an Atlanta Braves fan. He also followed all of the Pioneer Athletic teams. He was the owner of Bob & Rich’s Beverage Service in Arcade. Brigitte A. Sutkowski of Erb St., Buffalo died Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw at the age of 53. She was born November 2, 1961 in Heidelberg, Germany a daughter to the late Daniel S. Sutkowski and Ursula (Harter) Sutkowski. She was a cook at the Brescador Cafe in Arcade. She was a movie enthusiast and she loved her dog – Harley. Jonathan M. Cheman, of E. Main St., Arcade, died Sunday March 22, 2015 at his home at the age of 36. He was born August 29, 1978 in Buffalo a son of James A. Cheman, Sr. and the late Alexandria “Sandy” (nee Biskup) Cheman. He was a 1996 graduate of Pioneer Central School and enjoyed playing with his dogs and painting. A talented musician he played in the Ruthless Tom band. He is survived by his wife – Erica (nee Perks) Cheman whom he married June 30, 2007 in West Falls; his father – James A. Michael B. Johnson of Arcade, NY died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Bertrand-Chaffee Hospital in Springville at the age of 60. He was born October 29, 1954 in Buffalo, NY a son to the late William H. Johnson Jr., and Elizabeth B. (Brozi) Johnson. He built and restored guitars and was a guitar player for the band, Paradox. Frank P. Wood III of East Main St., Arcade passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his residence at the age of 69. He was born July 9, 1945 in Carlsbad, NM a son to the late Frank P. Wood Sr. and Alice M. (Mackin) Wood. He was a member of the Arcade United Church of Christ, Congregational, he was the past village trustee and past deputy mayor, a past Lion’s Club member, and a member of the Silver Lake Country Club. He was also a facilitator of numerous bereavement groups in the area. He graduated with his Master’s degree from Canisius College and had a Bachelor’s degree from Colgate College. He was also an alumnus of Theta Chi Fraternity. He was a retired teacher from the Pioneer school district. His wife, Diane A. (Allen) Wood whom he married December 18, 1972 in Waterville, NY passed away in 2010. Helen M. Quackenbush of Patrick Pl., Warsaw, formerly of Rt. 362, Bliss went to be with the Lord Friday, March 27, 2015 at the age of 87. She was born October 2, 1927 in Warsaw, NY a daughter to the late Howard A. Wolfe and Jessie (Potter) Wolfe. She was a member of the New Beginnings Fellowship Church in Hermitage, NY. She was also a 1946 graduate of Bliss High School. She was a telephone operator for Rochester Telephone in Warsaw, NY where she retired in 1950. She had also worked at Motorola in Arcade for 12 years where she eventually retired from in 1989. Her husband, Donald A. Quackenbush who she married November 18, 1950 passed away November 25, 2011. She is survived by her children: Dennis (late Cynthia) Quackenbush of Pike and Nancy “Myron” Rodger of Perry; also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter-in-law: Cynthia and her brother – Edwin Wolfe. She was born November 27, 1921 in Lime Lake, NY a daughter to the late Henry Krepps Sr., and Delina (Fowler) Krepps. She was a former PTA member, a 4-H leader and a grange member. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Roland Edmunds whom she married April 17, 1942 in Elton, NY passed away in 1989. She is survived by her children: Richard (Connie) Edmunds of Delevan, Patricia (Richard) Boese of Arcade, and Jeffrey Edmunds of Freedom; her sister: Mildred (James) Hagner of North Carolina; her brother-in-law: Robert Morgis of Delevan; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Paul T. Deptula, of Marble Springs Rd., Delevan, died Friday April 3, 2015 at his residence at the age of 76. He was born January 4, 1939 in Wilkes Barre, PA a son of the late Stanley and Johanna (nee Zellock) Deptula. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the late 1950’s and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #992, Hamburg. He was a crane operator at Bethlehem Steel, worked at Prestolite, was a truck driver for Peter J. Schmidt and lastly drove bus for Laidlaw. His wife – Mary Sheila (nee McManus) Deptula whom he married July 29, 1958 in Lackawanna died May 21, 2009. He is survived by his children – Robert (Becky) Deptula of Delevan, David (Eileen) Deptula of Delevan, Patricia (Jeff) Tingue of Delevan, Traci (Daniel) Meiler of West Falls, Paulette (Kevin) Green of Franklinville; sisters – Marie Klinker, Esther Wade, Theresa Benner and Chris Clouden all of Florida; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Rubie Roberta Stiegman, formerly of Machias, died Friday April 3, 2015 in Absolut at Salamanca at the age of 70. She was born July 23, 1944 in Delevan, New York a daughter of the late Richard Sisson and the late Thelma (nee Williams) Sisson Stroh. She was a retired aide for HomeCare and Hospice in Olean and was an avid reader. She enjoyed the times spent with her friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband – Carl “Red” Stiegman whom she married September 9, 1961 in Buffalo passed away October 30, 2005. She is survived by her children – Jeanette (Michael) Peterson of Franklinville, Robert Stiegman of Mass., Linda (Steve) Przybyla of Yorkshire, Michael Stiegman of Olean; a brother – William Stroh; a sister – Rhonda Stroh; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mervin E. Davies of Olean Rd., Holland died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home in Springville at the age of 97. He was born September 20, 1917 in Remson, NY a son to the late John Thomas Davies and Ida (Mackey) Davies. He was a Holland Central School graduate. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Holland as well as Holland’s Mystery Club. He was also the Town Clerk for 30+ years and a former member of the Java Masonic lodge. He enjoyed being active in his antiques. His life was his family and was often called “Papa Pie” by his grandchildren. He was a self-employed contractor for Marble & Davies in Holland. His wife, Eileen (Neihus) Davies whom he married September 30, 1939 in Holland passed away April 14, 2009. He is survived by his daughters: Judy (Bill) McArthur of Holland, Jeanne (James) Kramer of Springville, Jane (Cort) Kramer of Holland, and JoAnn (David) Cryan of Holland; his sister: Dorothy Stevens of Machias; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was born March 6, 1954 in Buffalo, NY a daughter to the late John Reusch and Ruth (Schultz) Reusch. She was a member of the New St. Mary’s Church in Arcade and the prayer shawl ministry. She enjoyed various church activities including Bible study and the book club. She also enjoyed knitting. She was employed at Tops in Arcade and worked in the Carry-out Cafe. Richard O. Schlining of Stinson Rd., Arcade died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at his residence at the age of 72. He was born July 5, 1942 in Buffalo, NY son of the late Fred L. Schlining and Arlie (Hartman) Schlining. He enjoyed woodworking, mountain man reenacting and primitive camping. He was an operating engineer for Local 17 in Buffalo. He is survived by his daughters: Vickie (Tim) Clayson of Hinsdale, Wendy Rogers of Delevan, Dawn Owens of Franklinville and Lisa (John) Kozak III of Arcade; his siblings: Marlene (Ken Love) Clester of Arcade, Carolyn (David) Tucker of Arcade, Nancy (Ron) Neamon of Delevan and Eugene Everts of Holland; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Robert F. Close of McKinstry Rd., Delevan died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Olean General Hospital at the age of 85. He was born July 9, 1929 in Buffalo, NY a son of the late William “Joseph” Close and Louise M. (Mittelstedt) Close. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Delevan, NY. He was also a United States Navy Veteran who served from 1948-1952. He was a hobby farmer and a model builder. He enjoyed fishing, was a social member of the Arcade V.F.W., a member of the Lime Lake Sportsman Club and a former member of the Machias American Legion. He had worked at Koike-Aronson in Arcade for 37 years as a Machinist and a Plant Supervisor. He is survived by his wife: Carolyn (Tidd) Close whom he married September 21, 1974 in Delevan; his children: Robin (Frank) Waldron of Turner Falls, MA, Robert “Joseph” Close of Delevan, Rebecca (Dale) Brauen of Machias, Rhonda (Scott Ciszak) Close of Delevan and Brian Tidd of Holland; his sister: Rosemary (Thomas) Clark of Averill Park, NY; eight grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, 18 nieces, 13 nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Betty Jane Rogers whom he married at the Blessed Sacrament in Delevan on June 27, 1953. She passed away in 1973.
